I will fight the Knoxville Police until I’ve exhausted every avenue because of people like Tatayana Hargrove. She’s a teenage girl, slightly smaller than I, mistaken for a male suspect that was bald and had a goatee. Cops beat her and allowed police dogs to attack her although she complied with their commands.
What makes this case even more ridiculous is that even if it wasn’t a case of mistaken identity, the police treatment of a compliant suspect is excessive force. A Tatayana Hargrove doesn’t just happen unless the superiors have allowed a culture of police abuse to go unpunished, unless smaller incidents of excessive force, in which there are no videos, have gone unchecked. That is why I fight.
